When finding out about Victorian life we looked at Queen Victoria and her reign, crime and punishment, methods of travel including the railway and the life of a child in the Victorian era. In art, we used the artist Lowry for inspiration and during English, we studied child labour through the novel ‘Street Child’.  We wrote diary entries in the role of Jim Jarvis and discussion pieces about whether he should have run from the workhouse or not.  Furthermore, we visited Quarry Bank Mill to find out more about the conditions children worked and lived in during the Victorian era.  We also lived in the apprentice house for a few hours, had a very Victorian lesson, went to see a Victorian doctor and (almost!) tried some Victorian delicacies…
