We will be building on last year’s Year 1 and Year 2 experiences with a balance of whole class teaching, group work, independent learning and play based learning. We hope that as children reach the end of their journeys in Mars they will be equipped to start their next class year becoming more independent and resilient.
We are really lucky to have such a big classroom in Mars! We have lots of learning areas for the children to work independently including construction, craft, games, computing, fine motor skills and mark making. We will be using our outdoor space for our learning too.
Our school day is very busy and jam-packed! It starts at 09.00am and finishes at 3.15pm. In the morning we usually focus on Phonics, Maths and Literacy and then in the afternoon other subjects such as PE, Computing, RE or Topic. Mars class also undertake some form of daily exercise in the afternoon and we finish the day with a story.
Reading is really important for your child both inside and outside of school. We hope that your child reads at least three times a week at home (everyday is even better) and get their reading record signed by an adult. Mars pupils will need to bring in their reading records every day along with their reading books. We will listen to your child read at least twice a week and we will also undertake guided reading sessions. There will be plenty of opportunity for children to read books that they love in class and we really encourage this at home too.
Even though things are starting to feel like the way they were, we will continue to teach your child about the importance of hand washing and keeping clean and safe. Children will wash their hands regularly throughout the day.
